Dress Code

Student Dress Code

In order to maintain an appropriate educational atmosphere and ensure safety and security in the school and community, the following dress code will be strictly enforced. Olive Vista Middle School reserves the right to add or delete any item in this list that at a later time becomes gang-related or a safety concern for all students. This dress code will be strictly enforced from the first day of school.

 

ALL STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING AND OBEYING THE SCHOOL'S SAFETY   
DRESS CODE.  IF A STUDENT COMES OUT OF DRESS CODE, THE STUDENT WILL BE GIVEN A LOANER SHIRT FOR THE DAY.  INAPPROPRIATE SWEATSHIRTS AND JACKETS WILL BE CONFISCATED AND HELD IN THE PARENT CENTER DURING THE SCHOOL DAY.


Pants/Shorts/Skirts

  • All pants, shorts, and skirts must be solid black.  Skirts and shorts must be no more than 2 inches above the knee.  Substituting leggings or tights for pants will not be permitted.
  • Unacceptable:
    • Leggings and tights worn as pants are UNACCEPTABLE.
    • Split, tattered, torn, or cut
    • Taped, rubber banded or stapled hem
    • Dragging/touching the ground
    • Low-rise style pants

Shirts/Sweaters:

  • All students must wear a collared, polo-style shirt.  Students may also wear Olive Vista shirts (350 t-shirts, Drill Team t-shirts, Leadership shirts, etc.).
  • Acceptable:
    • Color: Royal Blue, USC Burgundy, or White
    • Style: Polo-style shirt with a collar and sleeves.
    • Logo: No larger than 1 1/2 inches in size (only manufacturer's logo
    • Undershirts: white--crew neck only
  • Unacceptable
    • Writing/drawings/pictures on shirt
    • Tight-fitting
    • Sheer/see through tops
    • Sleeveless, tank tops, strapless, or spaghetti straps

Shoes/Socks:

  • Acceptable: Shoes should be properly sized, full back, flat soles, and closed-toe
  • Unacceptable:
    • Flip flops
    • Sandals and slippers

Outerwear/Jackets/Sweaters

  • Acceptable:
    • Styles: blue, burgundy, or gray--solid/plain sweatshirts only.  No writing, drawings, brand-names, etc.
    • Logo: Olive Vista Middle School logo only.
  • Unacceptable
    • Professional or university team logos
    • Community team logos
    • Store or brand names

Accessories:

  • Belts: Not to extend more than 2 inches longer than waistline, no initials or insignias on buckles, belt woven through all loops
  • Headgear:
    • Baseball caps with Olive Vista Middle School logo only (outside only)
    • Hoods worn up only in cold weather (outside only)
    • Beanies--solid color--no logo--no red and blue
    • No scarves, bandannas, or bandanna-style headbands

Miscellaneous:

  • No sunglasses unless prescribed by doctor
  • No undergarments showing
  • No earrings greater than 1 inch in diameter
  • No visible wallet chains/chain-like accessories
  • No skull designs of any kind
  • No leather bracelets or belts with metal designs, spikes, or studs
  • No glitter/stickers; writing on any body part
  • No spiked or dangerous jewelry (handcuffs, choker-chains, over-sized necklaces, or leather-spiked/studded accessories)
